Second Hand Spares

There’s a tendency to think that there’s very little skill in selling second hand spares for vehicles. , After all, what’s so difficult about stripping cars to reuse bits of them in other cars of the same make and model? And, if used spares were complicated, why are so many people selling them from their backyards?

Actually, making sure that buyers get the right spares for the right purpose takes a high degree of specialisation.

For one thing, there are so many models of such a huge variety of makes of vehicles that it’s impossible for any one person to know all there is to know about all vehicles. Which is why most second hand spares sellers specialise in particular makes.

Even then, knowing which part belongs with which model means studying each manufacturer’s manual as it hits the streets – and retaining that knowledge over many years.

But book knowledge on its own isn’t enough. Experience of having worked on vehicles, fitting parts in the way specified by the manufacturer, which means fitting them in a way that optimises the performance of both the part and the vehicle, is invaluable in ensuring that customers get the full benefit from the parts they buy.

So, if you’re looking for used spares, buy from a supplier that’s been around several years. That way, you can be pretty sure that, over the years, they’ve picked up the kind of indepth knowledge that will enable them to give you the right advice.

Just as importantly, though, find a supplier that has gone to the trouble and expense of employing specialists in the makes and models for which the company sells spares.

At Team Merbeda, for instance, we have 20 people in one branch and 11 in the other who have highly focused knowledge and experience of the vehicle brands we represent, including Mercedes Benz, Honda, VW, Audi, BMW, Colt, Hyundai, Kia, and Tata. Obviously, we employ our support staff based on the knowledge and experience they bring in to Team Merbeda from previous jobs. However, we enable them to keep their know-how up to date because we strip vehicles on our premises and we have a fitment centre that is guaranteed to fit any part you need us to.

So, when our support people give you advice, they speak from hands-on interaction with the parts they sell and the vehicles for which the parts are designed. In the process they save you money and time.

If you want spares that work, you need people like us.

If we don’t have it, we’ll find it for you – anywhere in Africa
